VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Donate your time, talent and skills to ASDA! Volunteers can bring their energy and special skills into the ASDA organization by helping with fund raising, grant writing, clerical/ office tasks, mailings and by offering innovative fundraising and organizational ideas.

Become a puppy raiser: Puppy raisers ensure that ASDA puppies are properly socialized and well mannered. The dogs are placed with carefully selected puppy raisers between 4 and 20 months of age. During this period the dogs are exposed to a variety of environments. Outfitted with a service dog cape a puppy raiser can take the puppy into most public places. The dogs need exposure to children and elders, stimulating active environments, as well as quiet settings. Puppies need rest, quiet time and patient handling. Quality time with a puppy raiser will prepare the dog for a lifelong role as a companion service dog for a child with autism.

Have a party: Invite friends and associates to a fundraising party at your home, community center, or church. It’s fun and it’s easy. Invite those who would be potential donors to a fun event. After all guests arrive, have time to relax and enjoy the food, you or someone else taps on a glass and gives a short introduction about ASDA, its purpose and need. Then pass the hat. You’ll be amazed at how much money you can raise from business associates, family and friends. And everybody has a good time while donating to a worthy cause.

Sponsor an entertainment fundraising night: Have a Bingo, Bunko or Poker party and donate the proceeds to ASDA.

How do I learn to train assistance dogs?  The only college in the world offering Associate of Science and Master of Science degrees in Assistance Dog Studies and Canine Life Sciences is Assistance Dog Institute.  The Institute also offers certificate programs. Learn from Dr. Bonnie Bergen, a pioneer who expanded assistance dog services 30 years ago.
